New To Pataka
Irish Session

Last Monday of each month.

No entry charge

We are keen to start an Irish session in Blenheim.  A session is an informal gathering of musicians and listeners who are interested in music from the Irish and Scottish traditions.  We will be playing a range of well-known jigs, reels hornpipes, polkas and airs.  Musicians are welcome, but please be prepared to follow session etiquette.  This is not an open mic evening, and if you don’t know the tunes please listen and try to learn them for next time.  Irish music is all about the melody and the enjoyment of musicians playing in harmony.  It will be toe-tapping fun and everyone is welcome.  Bring your instruments or just your ears.

Light snacks, wine, beers and low alcohol beverages will be on sale.

First Cheeseday of the month

Matching cheese and wine
Perfect Partners - cheese and wine

The first Tuesday of each month is also Pātaka’s First Cheeseday.  We will be showcasing products from our local cheese suppliers matched with Marlborough wines.  Each First Cheeseday will focus on a different cheese range or winery with either a cheesemaker or winemaker here to share the secrets of their craft and demonstrate the perfect pairing of cheese and a complementary wine.

There will be opportunity to relax and enjoy the company of friends, warm yourself on our homemade soup and bread and purchase a glass of wine.

First Cheeseday at Pātaka is too good to miss.

Soft drinks, tea, coffee and hot chocolate also available.

Tickets $25 include 5 cheese and complementary wine  tastings.

Delta's award winning wines

Delta Wines matched tastings

Delta was founded in 2000 by three prominent wine industry veterans and good mates, who found a site that was ideal for growing high quality Pinot Noir and planted it with selected Dijon clones.

Without the commercial limitations of their other projects, the comrades spared no expenses in their Delta venture, investing in not only the best land and vines, but cropping at extremely low levels, hand harvesting with multiple picks throughout the harvest season, and using self-indulgent winemaking techniques.

The investment paid off, with Delta wines receiving several high profile quality awards. In the following years Delta slowly began to add other varieties to its portfolio, as vineyard sites were identified that would produce exceptional and unique wines for a particular variety.

Heather Stewart, head winemaker for Delta will present the wines.  She moved to Marlborough in 2008 after completing a Master of Science in Psychology at Canterbury University.  Since basing herself in Marlborough she has completed a Graduate Diploma in Oenology, and has worked harvests for prominent high end wine companies in Tuscany and California. Heather has spent five years as assistant winemaker at a large family wine company before taking on the role of winemaker for The Delta Wine Company.

Pop in to Pātaka’s cosy environment and enjoy a tasting sensation based around Delta’s award winning wines matched with artisan cheeses and deli products.

Tickets ($25) includes five wine tastings with a platter pairing, good company and fascinating stories

Jacquie Walters

Jacquie Walters

We are delighted to welcome Jacquie to Pataka to share her music.

Jacquie Walters has been a professional singer-songwriter for more than 25 years. She was a founding member of “Pounamu” with Ariana Tikao in the early 1990s before she went to study in the UK. Jacquie completed her MA in Shakespeare Studies in Stratford-upon Avon and started a PhD in Contemporary Theatre at the University of Hull before leaving her studies to perform folk music, often with Kate Bramley (now of Jez Lowe and the Bad Pennies and The Mile Roses).

Since returning to New Zealand in 2000 Jacquie has recorded three solo albums, all of which have received positive reviews. Several of her songs have achieved accolades in international songwriting competitions and have been recorded by other artists.

Her latest release, “Light for a Broken World”, was released early this year and features James Wilkinson. James and Jacquie often tour and perform together as a duo.

Jacquie has a clear and powerful voice and her songs touch people’s hearts.

“If I can move an audience I feel that I have succeeded. Some of my material is serious and thought provoking but there are also plenty of love songs and laughter between songs to keep an audience entertained.”

Enjoy a glass or two of Lake Chalice wine, some delicious homemade treats, a warming bowl of soup, convivial company and great entertainment.
