New To Pataka
Irish Session

Last Monday of each month.

No entry charge

We are keen to start an Irish session in Blenheim.  A session is an informal gathering of musicians and listeners who are interested in music from the Irish and Scottish traditions.  We will be playing a range of well-known jigs, reels hornpipes, polkas and airs.  Musicians are welcome, but please be prepared to follow session etiquette.  This is not an open mic evening, and if you don’t know the tunes please listen and try to learn them for next time.  Irish music is all about the melody and the enjoyment of musicians playing in harmony.  It will be toe-tapping fun and everyone is welcome.  Bring your instruments or just your ears.

Light snacks, wine, beers and low alcohol beverages will be on sale.

First Cheeseday at Pātaka is too good to miss.

Soft drinks, tea, coffee and hot chocolate also available.

Tuesday 6th November

New Ways with Cheese

Although we love cheese in its natural state, there are some great ways to use cheese to impress both your friends and your tastebuds. We have been busy in the kitchen developing some new ideas and testing out some recipes to create five delightful cheese-inspired recipes. Each will be accompanied by a tasting of a matched wine from the Lake Chalice falcon range.
We will be sharing recipes so you can share these dishes with friends and family at home, as well as explaining about each cheese and wine.
Join us in Pataka’s relaxed venue and enjoy delicious cheeses, great wines and the company of a group of oenophiles and turophiles (wine and cheese lovers)

Pop in to Pātaka’s cosy environment and enjoy a tasting sensation based around Delta’s award winning wines matched with artisan cheeses and deli products.

Tickets ($25) includes five wine tastings with a platter pairing, good company and fascinating stories.

Tuesday 11th December

Brenda Liddiard
Mark Laurent

Brenda Liddiard and Mark Laurent

Pataka is delighted to welcome Brenda and Mark to our intimate and cosy venue.

“This fantastic duo never cease to amaze me with the diversity of their songs, musicianship and poetry – sublime guitar and mansion textures and soulful harmonies”.

“Confirming the guitar hero status that he earned several decades ago, Mark’s guitar is just about as expressive as his vocals, and what a great songwriter! Listening to Mark is like being washed in Irish Cream, and that’s from someone who hasn’t got a sweet tooth. He sings from the heart, and it’s as much a pleasure watching the audience enjoying the thrill that he obviously gets from sharing his songs and musical gifts. “It’s only love in the end, that’s all,” and it shows in everything he does.” (Roger Giles, Real Music, Auckland)

Brenda has been writing songs and playing guitar and mandolin since the 1970’s. She was born and grew up near London (UK), but moved to Australia in 1974, where she lived until 1986, and was passionately involved in the environment and anti-nuclear movements. Her songs were very influential in a number of campaigns, and several have been covered by other artists, or have appeared in documentary film soundtracks. In 1988 she represented Australasia at the United Nations sponsored Asia-Pacific Environmental Song Festival in Bangkok, performing her song For the River.
